What callers ask first
Most first calls circle back to the same few questions, so I’ve set the answers down here in the open. If yours isn’t among them, fire off a quote request and you’ll have a straight reply from Gail before the day is out.
The local rate at a glance
- $128/hr — two movers and a truck, with wardrobe boxes, shrink-wrap, dollies and pads all thrown in.
- $178/hr — a third mover added for bigger loads and the long carries that eat the clock.
- Once a load crosses a state line, the price becomes a written, binding flat total set before we load out — no fuel line sprung on you at the destination.
Licensing and coverage
Our interstate hauls run on our own US DOT and MC authority, while in-state jobs ride a Kentucky household-goods mover certificate. Free of charge, every shipment begins at the federal released-value level — sixty cents per pound, per article. Choose the full-value upgrade and coverage climbs to as much as $1,000,000 per shipment. If a claim is ever needed, you have nine months from the day we set the last box down.
Are you an actual mover, or do you just book one for me?
We're the mover. Coffman Moving Service is a fully licensed and insured moving company based in Manitou, KY, running our own trucks and uniformed W-2 crews — no broker, no lead-selling middleman — under a Kentucky household-goods certificate plus US DOT and MC authority.
How far ahead should I book a truck?
A week or two suits most jobs; end-of-month and summer Saturdays fill fastest around Madisonville. Tight on time? Call and Rodney will find you a slot if a truck's open.
Do you bring the boxes and packing materials?
Yes. Pads, dollies, shrink-wrap and wardrobe boxes come on the truck at no extra charge, and a full-pack crew can box the whole house if you'd rather not.
What if my things come up bigger than the estimate?
We reprice on paper before anyone lifts a thing. Only three things move a quote — added inventory, an extra stop, or a date change — never a meter running quietly upward.
Do you handle pianos, safes and antiques?
We do. Travis has years on upright pianos, gun safes and farmhouse antiques; it's careful two-person handling with the right straps and pads, quoted as a flat line on your estimate.
Is there a charge for stairs or an elevator?
A standard set of stairs or a working elevator adds nothing to the hourly rate. We only flag it up front when a carry runs unusually long or a piece needs a third hand.
